The Friends of the City of Ottawa Archives are proud to celebrate Archives Awareness Week April 2-8, 2012. Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson declared the following proclamation to kick off the week:
WHEREAS, the rich history of the City of Ottawa and the nation’s capital is held in safekeeping in the City Archives and other local Archives; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ottawa invites residents to share in the discovery of the significant collections housed in a new Central Archives facility; and
WHEREAS, Ontario celebrates “Archives Awareness Week” the first week of April; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ottawa recognizes its Archives as vital to preserving, commemorating and enjoying our heritage and creating a legacy for future generations;
THEREFORE, I, Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim the period of April 2 to 8, 2012 as Archive Awareness Week in Ottawa.
